As we approach the hottest month here in Costa Rica, Sound Scoop is here to recommend songs that will help alleviate the INSANE heat that we have been feeling and slowly channel in the vacation vibes.
This is why the song I have chosen for this week is West Coast Love by Emotional Oranges
They are an R&B duo comprised of male singer/audio engineer “A” and vocalist “V” who met at a bat mitzvah and discovered their enjoyment for classic R&B. Ever since then, they have kept their identities mainly anonymous (not as much as Marshmello haha) As they explained in an interview with Billboard
“We wanted our identity to be the characters that we’ve created a world for — the lyrics, production, art, the way we roll out music and engage with the fans. When you come to the shows, you get to experience our personalities a bit more, but we want to save that for the Emotional Oranges family.”
I really love the dynamic they have! And also their name is pretty funny. The choice of orange comes from their belief that it is an underrated color but a nice vibrant color that feels calm before a storm.
West Coast Love was released in 2019, as a part of their album The Juice: Vol ll. Its lyrics speak about a romance that resulted from a relationship that began in California. The song's narrator meets someone they are interested in, sparks up a conversation, and asks for permission to get to know them better. It captures the sensation of falling in love with a West Coaster and the memories that will never disappear.
Ever since I heard it for the first time, I have loved the flow and vibes. It feels just like riding in the back of a car with the windows rolled down, riding through the highway. More specifically, a moment of just pure fun and relaxation.
Favorite Verse
“Shooting fireworks in the sky
Oh, how the time goes by
Boy how you never left my mind
That's that West Coast love”
I hope you can enjoy this song as much as I do. Have an awesome week!
