April 2024
Welcome again to The Sound Scoop, your weekly place for music discovery. This week I will be sharing with you a song that has been stuck in my head for a while now.
The song is by the American singer-songwriter Victoria Monét. She has recently gained recognition because she won three Grammys including Best New Artist, Best R&B Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical this year and has been nominated for a total of 10! Also, her album Jaguar ll, released back in August 2023 was very a big hit.
But her success did not come overnight. At age 20 she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career as an artist, where she had to begin to work as a songwriter and writing songs for artists like Chloe x Halle, Fifth Harmony, and even Ariana Grande. During this time she released 4 EPs which weren’t received on a wide scale, it wasn’t until the 2020 release of her EP Jaguar were more people began to notice her more and recognize her vocal talent.
She has said on multiple occasions that she holds no regrets about her past because she knew her time was going to come when it was right.
This week's song is called We Might Even Be Falling in Love (Interlude), and I find one thing super very SAD about this song. It is an interlude….meaning… it only lasts a WHOPPING….51 SECONDS…… I’m gonna need you all to hear this song to understand what I mean. This song radiates a bit of 70’s vibes, it feels very natural and almost free. Victoria’s voice is soft and melodic and accompanied by soft instrumentation making this song so beautiful to listen to. This song takes part in the softer side of her music, as Victoria describes it, her more ‘vulnerable side’. I listen to this song (or interlude might I say sadly) on a very daily basis, it puts me in a super great mood.
If you are looking for a SLIGHTLY longer version of this song, in Febuary of last year, Victoria released a duet version with Bryson Tiller of this song. His voice pairs very well with Victoria’s. (Thank you Spotify Singles!!!)
Favorite Verse
“And it feels like
I'm gonna know you for the rest of my life
It's safe to say that we might even be falling in love”
I hope to live and see a full version of this song because I think it would be so good, Victoria is fully capable of making a masterpiece, just like she has previously on multiple occasions. Also, catch her at Coachella this year, based on how she was on her tour, her performance will be spectacular!
Let me know what songs you would like me to look at or ways in which I can improve the scoop for everyone!
Thank you for reading! (and listening)
