welcome back to the sound scoop! today’s review is another artist I will see in the All Things Go Festival! She is one that I am very excited about because her voice is so beautiful, I can’t wait to hear her live!
This week’s artist is the one and only Reneé Rapp!
She is an American singer-songwriter, who curiously is also an actress. You might know her from the Mean Girls musical because she starred as Regina George in it. Ever since she was young and performing in high school musicals, her parents supported and encouraged her career (even though she recalls them being a bit too hard on her sometimes…) and made sure she could improve slowly, but surely.
This week’s song: Talk Too Much comes from her album Snow Angel. I was first intrigued by this song’s title because if I’m honest, I highly relate because if you ask anyone I know, they will probably tell you that I DO talk too much. But the meaning of this song goes deeper than only taking too much…
Reneé explores the challenges of overthinking and self-sabotage within a romantic relationship. It portrays the narrator's tendency to examine each and every detail, often misinterpreting them as negative signs. This constant analysis leads her to undermine her own happiness. The title Talk Too Much serves as a summary of Reneé’s struggle with overthinking and its impact on their communication and connection with their partner.
Despite the significant lyrics, this song has an entertaining beat that almost feels straight out of a movie! It is a loud song, with overlapping vocals in the chorus and a full band instrumental which I believe perfectly communicates what she is thinking about: “I THINK I TALK TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!” This is a song you can easily keep on repeat :)
Favorite Verse
“I'm here again
Talking myself out of
My own happiness
I'll make it up 'til I quit
I wonder if we should just sit here in silence 'cause
I think I talk too much.”
I highly recommend her full album! It has a variety of topics and sounds which allow a broad discovery of her voice. So excited to see her soon!
keep listening,
