Welcome back to another week of the Sound Scoop. I have been a little absent the past few days because school is just not it but I am back for another week of music! This week we are continuing the All Things Go series, little by little the date approaches and my excitement is getting out of hand:)))))))
But let’s get started!
The artist I chose for today is a girlie who I ADORE, I discovered her music not so long ago but have been forever mesmerized. I recall watching her Coachella performance earlier this year and think we can all agree that she is a spectacular performer (and so gorgeous!)
Chapelle Roan is an American singer-songwriter from Missouri. Fun fact, Chapelle Roan isn’t her real name! It is just the stage name she gave herself in honor of her grandfather Dennis K. Chappell, and his favorite song "The Strawberry Roan" by Curley Fletcher.
She is an artist who this past year has skyrocketed in fame greatly, but not many people know that she has been in the music scene since 2014 when she uploaded her first song under her real name (Kayleigh Rose). She had a very active beginning, as she signed with many labels, supported other artists on their tours, released more music (including her first EP) and so much more.
At some point, Chappelle gave up on music on the big scale for some time and decided to move back to her hometown in Missouri to work on her music independently while working. It wasn’t until 2022 that Chappelle moved back to LA and began working on the one and only album: The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess
This week’s song is part of this glorious album. Many of the songs off this album are heavily inspired by 1980s synth pop and 2000s pop hits. Just think Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Material Girl vibes and it’s just that!
I had maaany songs off this album I wanted to do for this week but the winner is: Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl. The reason for this is because I love love love the meaning of it!
This song follows the story of a confident and independent woman who celebrates her individuality and won't settle for a mediocre romance. It celebrates self-expression, empowerment, and the rejection of societal norms. She seeks a Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl, which is herself! Someone vibrant, confident, and embraces non-conforming lifestyles.
I’m a huge fan of songs with such an unapologetic and confident attitude, it’s very empowering! Chapelle Roan, you are such an icon, the real femininomenon in my world(if u know u know).
Favorite Verse
“He didn't ask a single question
And he was wearing these fugly jeans
It doesn't matter though
He doesn't have what it takes to be with a girl like me”
So what is stopping you from listening to Chappelle Roan?! Inspired by drag queens and the camp aesthetic, she will NEVER let you down with an outfit or performance.
I hope you all enjoyed this week's song and are all HOT TO GO! (if you know you know!)
See you next time,
Lari <3
